At that time I was using my own midi sequencer system running on a BBC microcomputer with a home made midi interface. I wrote the code in BBC BASIC, using 6502 assembly language for the time critical sections. This was in the days before the Atari ST and Cubase, so it was cutting edge technology!
At home in Tottenham I routined the song on my old Eko guitar then programmed a Soca (Soul Calypso) rhythm into my midi sequencer linked to an Akai S900 sampler for the drums, bass, percussion and pans, along with a Casio CZ101 for the 'scratch' effect. After adding guitar and backing vocals, I transferred to Mark Angelo's studio in Farringdon to record Norman Beaton's lead vocal and the brass parts.
This high tech approach was highly unusual for a TV theme back then but it resulted in a distinctively modern sound that has stood the test of time.."
